The History of the Churro
Churro's are enjoyed by everyone from all around the world, whether it's at the theme park or freshly baked at a classy churro cafe in Spain! However, nobody really knows where this crunchy sweet dessert came from.
Like many foods, the churro has many theories of where it's originated. Many people believe it originated from Spanish shepherds centuries ago. These hardworking men spent most of their days working in the mountains. Occasionally, the shepherds became hungry for a sweet treat, so they developed a cake-like cylinder that could easily be cooked on an open fire in a pan.
It is also said that it was the Portuguese that brought the churro over to Europe when they were trading with the Chinese. They brought back the technique that the Chinese used to make their Youtiao (fried flour stick), and changed it to make it a more sweet dessert instead of a salty stick.
